CupCake Pattern
(Plus a few ramblings)
It has been a wild week. I've been sick off and on for about three months and I FINALLY went into the doctor. After some antibiotics I should be back to myself in no time. It does mean that I've been in bed by 9pm every night, which is before I get most of my crochet work done. I have been working on a lot of blankets lately and needed some quick fix projects. Currently I have two of those in mid-design. An egg collecting basket (that's done in just a couple of pieces), and a cake holder.
A cake holder became a necessity when my cakes would collapse on itself. I tried a couple yarn hugs, which I love but not for cakes. Some plastic containers, boxes, bins, bags. None of them quite worked. So I made something. I've only made them in cotton. I have a big stash of ILTY Cotton from a couple of years ago and started there.
I wanted something that was a bit snug so it would allow the cake to stay compressed and have a good tension. The first trial didn't have a strap across and once the cake was about half way used it started to fall out. I used the tail (because who tucks in the tails of their own projects? I do not. ) and tied it across. MAGIC. Cake has stayed in place. Here is the final version of CupCake, the cake holder to help organize all your WIPs.
For any of the stitches below, you will be able to find written, photo, and video tutorials on YouTube. Please reach out to me on my group on Facebook- Shelby Shea's Stitches CAL for any additional help.
A final, pdf version with tips on how to size this for other cakes, and additional information will be available on my Ravelry or Etsy shop by February 15th.

Round 13: ch-1, bpsc in each stitch around, sl-st to first sc (48 bpsc)
Final- fdsc 15, leave a tail a few inches long and cut tail.
Attach button on the other side of work in Round 10. I like to do it off to the side so it doesn't effect my center pull.
Tail is used to wrap around the button once cake is in place.
CupCake will be snug. I plan on making a video on how I insert the cake. Once the cake is inserted, use the fdsc tail and wrap it around the button to secure the cake.
